Courtyard Marriott Opens Feb. 1

After four months, Decatur finally has a downtown hotel again.

The renovated opens for business Wednesday, Feb. 1, and will become real busy real fast.

The hotel at 130 Clairemont Ave. will hold the on Feb. 18 and TribalCon -- billed as a bellydance and music festival -- on Feb. 24.

Privately held Noble Investment Group announced last May that it had bought the Holiday Inn and Conference center and planned to convert it to a Courtyard by Marriott. The five-story hotel closed in early October for a $9 million renovation.

A press release described some of the changes:

The open, bright and contemporary new Courtyard hotel lobby welcomes guests with vivid contrasting colors, including blue, green, orange and red.  The traditional front desk is replaced with separate welcome pedestals to create more personal and private interactions when guests check in. ... Guests can connect to free WiFi and there are ample electrical outlets throughout the lobby to power digital devices.
