A Little Piece of Wine Country in Avondale Estates

Selections are mostly under $20 at the Little Wine Shop

Step into The Little Wine Shop and you’ll feel transported to a laid back nook in California’s wine country.

With the smell of oak, aging cheese and a crisp newness, the boutique wine store opened last fall in a repurposed building on the main drag at 100 N. Avondale Rd., in Avondale Estates.

“We offer a very curated selection that lets people explore a little bit,” said owner Rebecca Hadj Taieb.

Besides wines from around the world, it also offers a small local selection of cheeses, event space for parties, wine consultations for weddings, a “no commitment” wine club.

That means, customers are not locked in to the monthly wine selections and they don’t even have to join like other wine clubs. Instead, purchasers get 6 selections of hand picked wines for $85. Normally, these wines would retail for around $108.

On the last Tuesday of each month, Hadj Taieb lets would-be buyers sample the next month’s wine club selections at a tasting held in the mini-kitchen and tasting room at the store.

“No one else does it,” Hadj Taieb said. “They fly off the shelf fast and it’s a fun way to choose wine.”

The wine club concept has quickly caught on with neighbors and other shoppers.

Hadj Taieb spent 15 years in sales and corporate marketing at such firms IBM, Xerox and General Electric before turning her attention to wine and owning her own small neighborhood business.

She said, “I took a leap of faith."
