Poverty is Real Benefit Concert Featuring music by The Flint Hill Specials, Tedo Stone, & The District Attorneys

POVERTY IS REAL is a non-profit organization that leverages great music to combat poverty in local communities. PIR takes their fundraising concerts on tour, celebrating music and supporting local organizations that fight poverty and homelessness.

Poverty is Real emerged from the idea that communities can take huge strides in alleviating need at a local level when they join forces. That concept – coupled with a love of music – gave rise to Poverty is Real.

And, even though the reality of poverty is sobering, Poverty is Real chooses to approach the issue with hope. When a city combines its resources and energy, incredible things can happen. Poverty is Real strives to ignite that drive and focus in local communities, combining hope with group action to generate a real and lasting impact.

ALL proceeds for the Decatur PIR shows go towards Decatur Cooperative Ministry. DCM alleviates and prevents homelessness while affirming the dignity of each family.

TEDO STONE's music never ceases to fuse throw-back sounds (primarily of the 1960’s) with a keen sense of contemporary resonance. In fact, his seemingly effortless eclecticism perhaps stands out most, as he places psychedelic rock, soul, blues, country, and even sometimes electronic music all under one roof. His songs often strike an intriguing balance between emotional turmoil and a celebration for the
everyday, between making us want to cry and dance at the very same time. The haunting vocals—reminiscent of singers ranging from Devandra Banhart, MGMT, Brandon Flowers, to Jim Morrison—accompanied by his
poignant guitar riffs, cut into the listener’s head with inescapable precedence. His lyrics are simple yet surprising, accessible yet original, and his outstanding knack for melodies serves as the impetus for the organic motion of his songs.

Formed in late 2009, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEYS are a band of young twenty-somethings from Atlanta and Athens, Georgia. Founded by high school friends, Drew Beskin and Chris Wilson, The D.A.s are a blend of various styles (Americana, Indie, Pop) and are influenced by The Replacements and Modest Mouse as much as the Beach Boys and Rilo Kiley. Like these artists, The D.A.s (named after a Bob Dylan song) try to expand their sound while believing in the key ingredient….great songs.
