Decatur Arts Festival Fine Arts Exhibition May 22 – June 3, 2012 at the Dalton Gallery at Agnes Scott College

The Decatur Arts Alliance is accepting entries for the annual Fine Arts Exhibition of the Decatur Arts Festival. The show takes place at the Dalton Gallery on the Agnes Scott College campus, May 22 – June 3, 2012. Jurors for the 2012 edition of the Fine Arts Exhibition are Teresa Bramlette Reeves, Joey Orr and Judy Parady.  Bios for the jurors are attached, and applications are due February 10, 2012.

Special events during the exhibition include the opening, in conjunction with the Decatur Business Association, 5:00p.m. May 22; and Last Call, a reception with artists’ commentaries, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. June 3. The public is invited.

The Alliance invites artists working in all media to apply for the juried exhibition that is a part of the 24rd Annual Decatur Arts Festival. This exhibition annually contributes a fresh and unique perspective to the festival and to an audience representing a broad spectrum of knowledge and appreciation of the arts, addressing this spectrum with a diversity of styles and media.  Works selected for the show reflect a wide range of artists’ experiences and viewpoints, with excellence as a common thread.

The exhibition offers monetary prizes as well as purchase awards from the Decatur Business Association and the City of Decatur.

The Jurors

Teresa Bramlette Reeves received a BFA in drawing and painting from the University of Georgia, an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a PhD in art history from the University of Georgia. She has presented solo projects nationally and has been included in numerous group shows locally, nationally, and internationally. She was a curatorial assistant and assistant director at New York institutions and gallery director and curator for the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center. She taught at Georgia State University for ten years, but recently began a new appointment as the gallery/museum director at Kennesaw State University.

Joey Orr received his MA in visual and critical studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is now an arts and sciences fellow at Emory University’s Graduate Institute of the Liberal Arts. His recent projects focus on representing archival memories through public intervention practices. Orr is a member of the Atlanta-based collective, John Q, and for five years (2000-2004) he ran the public art series, ShedSpace. He is currently an associate editor for the new online Journal of Artistic Research based in Bern, Switzerland.

Judy Parady is an artist and educator with a strong background in metals and jewelry design. Producing small sculptures, jewelry, and paintings from a variety of materials, she exhibits often and is widely collected.  A long-time resident of Decatur, Parady has a BVA in jewelry design and silversmithing from Georgia State University and promotes the benefits of community art and art education for everyone through her service on the boards of various arts organizations.
