Weekend Planner: Start With An Improv Competition

There's plenty to do this weekend in Decatur and Avondale Estates, but here are five ideas to get you started. Look at the Events calendar for all the possibilities.

1. Improv competition. Eight improvisors start on stage but only one survives, with the audience choosing the winner. Starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Academy Theatre. $15.

2. Pondering pregnancy. A panel of physicians provides tips on what to expect during pregnancy. Starts at 6 p.m. Friday in the Dr. Bobbie Bailey Tower Auditorium at DeKalb Medical. Free.

3. Intro to keeping chickens. Learn the basic of backyard poultry at the Oakhurst Community Garden of the Wylde Center. Starts at noon Saturday. $20.

4. Fred Eaglesmith. The veteran singer/songwriter/bandleader plays songs from his new album, 6 Volts, at Eddie's Attic. Show starts at 8 p.m. Friday. $18.

5. Artists' reception. Selected small works by 21 local artists will be shown at the Decatur Market & Gallery, a co-operative gallery for emerging artists. 6 p.m. Saturday. Free.
