Weekend Planner: The Holiday Edition

Enjoy the season with a one-man "Christmas Carol," "The Nutcracker," the tree lighting at Lake Avondale, the Atlanta Radio Theatre and Avondale Estates' tour of homes and holiday market.

This weekend is full of hoiday activities. Here are five big ones, but for a full listing check out the Calendar of Holiday Happenings or the Events calendar.

1. Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol': A Solo Performance by Mark Cabus. One actor plays all the parts--from Scrooge to Tiny Tim. 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Agnes Scott College. $15.

2. The Nutcracker. The Callanwolde Dance Ensemble performs at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Decatur High Performing Arts Center, 310 N. McDonough St., Decatur. $12 general admission.

3. Avondale Lake Tree Lighting. Avondale Estates sure loves Christmas trees. One near city hall was plugged in Monday and the tree in the town lake will be lit up at 6 p.m. Saturday. It's a big community event and totally free.

4. . The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company brings a distinctive Southern twist on the holidays. 8 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Academy Theatre. $10.

5. Avondale Estates Christmas Tour of Homes & Holiday Market. The market starts at noon, the tour at 3 p.m. at the Avondale Community Club, 59 Lakeshore Drive, Avondale Estates. $12 for the tour.
