Volunteers Needed: Dig in at Sugar Creek Garden's Workday
Here are opportunities to make a difference in the Decatur community.
Want to do something worthwhile with your free time? Did you make a New Year's resolution to give back to your community? Here are opportunities for you to make a difference in Decatur:
- Dig in at the Sugar Creek Garden Workday on Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. Join Dara, Garden Coordinator, bring some gloves and get busy weeding, mulching and learning! Sugar Creek Garden is located behind the Oakhurst Presbyterian Church. Park in the lot next to the church just off of East Lake Drive. Get details and workday schedule here.
- The Decatur Cooperative Ministry, an organization which assists families facing homelessness, is looking for a new executive director. Beth Vann-Turnbull has served as the organization's executive director for 12 years, but at the end of March is moving to Virginia to take on her new role as Executive Director of the Virginia Dental Association Foundation.
- SAVE-THE-DATE: On March 16, the Side by Side Brain Injury Clubhouse will hold its second annual Jawbones vs. Sawbones benefit basketball game in Decatur High School’s gym. Volunteers are needed to help raise money to benefit individuals living with brain injuries while being entertained by watching Jawbones (lawyers) and Sawbones (doctors) battle for bragging rights on the court. To learn more and to purchase tickets, learn more at the Side By Side Brain Injury Clubhouse Facebook page. Anyone nterested in volunteering for this event should contact Resource Development Director Marian Dickson at marian@sidebysideclubhouse.org.
