In response to the community's pushback on the “Decatur Crossing” development, developer Jeff Fuqua has changed the development to be "more conventional" and now the plan is going before the Community Council, Planning Commission and then BOC once again.
Next up is the Planning Committee Meeting set for Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Maloof Auditorium, located at 1300 Commerce Drive.
And while all those involved continue to work to find a conventional plan for the development site, a group of 10 Decatur and DeKalb arts organizations have come up with a somewhat unconventional proposal that the Scott Boulevard Baptist Church sanctuary be saved and revitalized as a performing arts center.
As Atlanta INtown writes Wednesday, Fuqua, which reportedly is “not against incorporating some type of arts venue” in the project, has been sent the proposal to have the sanctuary building preserved. The article goes on to explain how the area is lacking in performing arts spaces dedicated for smaller size dance companies.
