A New Market Opens in Oakhurst

Oakhurst Market offers a selection of meats, cheese, local vegetables and other goods.

Residents of Decatur's Oakhurst neighborhood have been making their way to the new Oakhurst Market, which had its soft opening over the weekend.

On Monday evening, a steady stream of local residents went by to check out the new business in the heart of what many call "downtown" Oakhurst.

"It's been a pretty positive response so far," said Casey Bondell, one of the store's co-owners.

The goods range from locally grown vegetables (some grown as locally as Oakhurst's Sugar Creek Farm), sausages made by in Avondale Estates, cheeses, baked goods, wine and beer.

Tanks on one wall offer infused extra virgin olive oil. The choices include an olive oil with black pepper and dried chili, and another with lemon and rosemary flavor. Market employee David Flangan said the olive oil will be solid in bottles that can be refilled at a discount.

Bondell said the market is still working out its hours, but would likely be open 10-8 Monday-Saturday and 10-6 on Sundays.
