Get Out: Weekend Planner

Why go: This third annual fundraising event is hosted by Oakhurst PTA and will benefit Oakhurst Elementary School’s teachers’ grants. The theme this year is “Junktique: Wings, Swing and Hops” and will feature a community artisan boutique, a hot wing cook-off, swing dancing demonstrations and lessons and an all new kid carnival area.

Why go: Honoring the founder of WRFG Radio, Harlon Joye; business owner and community activist Sandra Heartsfield; and community organizer, Emery Wright, this event hopes to create awareness about the importance of free, independent radio while raising the necessary funds to promote and sustain WRFG.

TRY THE BEST BREAKFAST DEAL IN TOWN

Why go: These breakfasts served by the American Legion are open to the public and include: eggs, sausage patties, bacon, grits, French toast, biscuits and gravy, along with coffee, tea and juice.

REVIEW THE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY PLAN

Where/When: City Hall, City Commission Meeting Room, 509 N. McDonough St. Decatur, Thursday, November 10, 6 to 8 p.m.

Why go: Learn more about the Environmental Sustainability Plan at this open house at city hall. Hundreds of ideas were submitted by Decatur residents, who are encouraged to review and comment on the draft plan being presented. This open house will include recycling demonstrations, rain barrels and other environmental initiatives.
