Why go: The school’s students display globes and American symbol quilts that they’ve made, relay lessons on economics, and host a science fair with demonstrations on heat, friction and magnetic forces.

Why go: Mike Killeen lives in Decatur and has played with The Blind Boys of Alabama and others, so if you are a fan of Southern Rock, you will want to catch this show!

3. LAST CHANCE TO GO FROM FUR TO FEATHERS

Where/When: , 415 Church St., Suites A-B, Decatur, Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21, 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, May 22, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Why go: It’s in the final week of its showing, but you don’t want to miss this animal-oriented art show that draws attention to the plight of abandoned and displaced animals. A portion of all proceeds will benefit Ahimsa House, an organization dedicated to helping the human and animal victims of domestic violence.

Why go: Attend this fundraiser supporting local non-profit organizations whose missions it is to cultivate greenspaces and to inspire a community of environmentalists. Some of the area’s best food and drinks, provided by Sun in My Belly, , , Little Red Hen Bakeshop and more will be provided for attendees. There will also be live and silent auction items available for the bidding.

5. CELEBRATE GEORGIA WAND’S MOTHER’S DAY FOR PEACE 2011

Where/When: (Dana Fine Arts Building), 141 E. College Ave., Decatur, Sunday, May 22, 4 p.m.

Why go: This fundraiser will feature speaker Winona LaDuke, executive director of Honor the Earth, an organization addressing environmental needs and an awards ceremony.
