Community Corner

2011 AVONDALE ESTATES SUNDAY RIDE

For four hours on May 22, 2011, Avondale Estates Sunday Ride will transform city streets--our City's greatest resource of open space--into one vast park. Sunday Ride is a place for walkers, joggers, bikers, scooters, skaters or any form of active transportation.

Combining active transportation and community fellowship, Sunday Ride is a  great opportunity for exercising; enjoying our amazing city; and supporting local businesses and vendors.

From 10:00am to 2:00 pm, many streets will be closed to cars but open to anyone under their own power. The event will be free, open to the public with absolutely no barriers to participation.  The aim is to create a safe, welcoming environment for people of all ages, abilities and physical fitness levels.

Create your own fun at Sunday Ride!
Lead your own activity within the event.  Organize a walk, bike ride or roll around the route.  Invite your neighbors, organization, friends and/or family to have a picnic in the park. Set up along the route and play music. The ideas are endless.  Let us know, and we will help publicize it.

Sponsors!
The city of Avondale Estates is co-sponsoring the event, having awarded seed funds to help kick it off.  Donations and participation by Avondale Estates residents and businesses  as well as neighboring communities are providing much needed support to the Sunday Ride team of volunteers.
