Decatur Emergency Assistance Ministry Needs Donations

You can bring food supplies for needy families to the Avondale Estates Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 3 or leave them on your doorstep for Boy Scouts to pick up Dec. 5 and 12.

A local nonprofit that helps needy families is seeking food donations for the holidays.

The Decatur Emergency Assistance Ministry (DEAM) is supported by the City of Avondale Estates and 22 Decatur-area churches. DEAM provides 100,000 pounds of food and $80,000 in rental and utiilty assistance assistance to more than 4,000 families.

But DEAM's food supplies may only last through Dec. 15. The group needs 8,500 items to survive through Jan. 31.
