Good morning, Decatur and Avondale Estates. Today is Thursday, June 21, and here are five things you need to know.

It's Go Skateboarding Day. Give a thumbs up to any skaters you see on the street.

The Big Pop Up at East Decatur Station. Organizers call this a "one-night only extravaganza of art, music, food trucks and beer." It happens 6 to 9 p.m. at East Decatur Station and is sponsored by the Decatur Arts Alliance and the City of Decatur.

Learn the basics of canning. The gardens will be overflowing soon and you may have loads of tomatoes and cukes on your hands. The DeKalb Cooperative Extension will lead a class on the basics of canning from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at
4380 Memorial Drive, Suite 200, Decatur. It only costs $5. Information, call 404-298-4080.

Photos at the DeKalb History Center. If you're in downtown Decatur and have time on your hands, visit this collection of black-and-white photos from the mid-1940s to the early 1980s. Photographer Guy Hayes shot the food trends, clothing styles and recreational diversions of those years in DeKalb County. It's free and is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 101 East Court Square.
