5 Things to Know Today: July 20, 2012

Prepare to hear a lot about the newest Batman movie. North Decatur Presbyterian has a new idea about Sunday services.

Good morning, Decatur and Avondale Estates. Here are 5 Things to know as you start your weekend.

1. Weather. Today, high temps around 92, lows around 73, 30-60 percent chance of rain. Saturday, high of 89, low of 73, 30-60 percent chance of rain. Sunday, high of 89, low of 73, 20-30 percent chance of rain.Β 

2. The preachers say, "Don't come to church." This is different. The husband-and-wife team of the Revs. David Lewicki and Beth Waltemath at North Decatur Presbyterian is encouraging members to attend another local church this Sunday or go to a place where non-church goers celebrate the Sabbath "to observe how people are engaged in worship and/or rest." Then everybody will share their ideas and thoughts.

3. Batman is back. One of the most anticipated and hyped movies of the year, "The Dark Knight Rises," is showing this weekend at theaters all over Atlanta. 4. You can vote tomorrow. Dekalb County registered voters can cast early ballots Saturday, July 21, at the DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections main office at 4380 Memorial Drive. The office will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Next week a polling place will open in Decatur for early voting.

5. Public meetings: Decatur Environmental Sustainability Board at 8 a.m. Friday in Decatur City Hall.
