The Westin Peachtree Plaza Redefines its Interior with Complete Lobby and Meeting Space Renovation

Since the 73-story Atlanta hotel opened its doors to guests in 1976, The Westin Peachtree Plaza has continued to evolve to meet the needs of its business and leisure travelers. Upholding that tradition, the hotel is unveiling plans to embark on a grand scale renovation of all public and meeting spaces scheduled to begin Aug. 1. The redesign comes on the heels of a $45 million guest room renovation and will follow the complete remodel of The Sun Dial Restaurant, Bar & View, due to re-open in August 2013.

Once the renovation is complete, guests will experience a completely transformed atmosphere with designs created by Carolyn Auger of Blackdog Studio.  Designs will feature a mixture of rich textiles and fabrics, lush, soothing vertical garden walls – living walls of plants designed to improve indoor air quality, vibrant nature-inspired artwork that will don the prominent center elevator column, and modern furnishings.

Thoughtfully appointed seating zones with a modern color palate alongside unique and sculpture-inspired lighting will invigorate the lobby, providing a fresh backdrop for guests to meet casually with friends and family. The new flexible space will also encourage guests to stay connected with areas ideal for browsing the internet or interacting with colleagues, and will feature access to computers, printers, power panels, and integrated lighting.

Meeting planners and business travelers can expect a balanced combination of style and function in the new meeting spaces designed to inspire productive, mindful meetings. All 85,000 square feet, including the Peachtree and Plaza ballrooms, will be refreshed with the same cohesive nature-inspired design elements incorporated in the lobby.

“This last, grand phase of our renovation process will modernize our meeting spaces in anticipation of business travelers’ future needs,” said Michael Fletcher, director of sales and marketing for The Westin Peachtree Plaza. “For example, to accommodate the desire for pop-up meetings – those sudden small meetings that don’t require a larger setting – we will offer Tangent, a private lobby space for up to six people complete with tables, chairs, AV equipment and more.”

The hotel, already at the forefront offering technologically advanced meeting solutions, recently completed a $1 million upgrade to its cell phone infrastructure. The new DAS Cellular communications system triples cell phone coverage in the building, virtually eliminating dead zones in the hotel and providing full communication capabilities to all guests.

Improving retail space, the hotel lobby will welcome FedEx® Office. Starbucks® and The Lobby Bar will both undergo renovation, incorporating the overall design’s theme.

Guests and meeting attendees will not be disturbed through the construction process as the project will be completed in confined phases.

In the past five years, The Westin Peachtree Plaza has undergone several major renovations, including the replacement of all 6,350 windows, an update of the central plant to improve heating and cooling efficiency and the complete redesign of all 1,073 rooms.
