The Atlanta Women’s Foundation Awards Funds to Two DeKalb County Nonprofits Serving Refugee Community

The Atlanta Women’s Foundation awarded $25,000 to Fugees Family and $10,000 to Refugee Women’s Network as part of its 2013 spring grant cycle. The Fugees Family is devoted to helping child survivors of war rebuild their lives, one step at a time. Fugees Family provides free educational opportunities through Fugees Academy, a 5-week academic summer camp and after-school program, which includes soccer practices and daily tutoring sessions for refugee youth. Funding will support twelve new girls at Fugees Academy, a tuition-free private school for refugees.

Refugee Women’s Network’s (RWN) mission is to enhance refugee and immigrant women’s strengths, skills, and courage through leadership training, education and advocacy to promote independence, self-sufficiency, and networking among its participants. Funding will support RWN’s Microenterprise and Leadership Program, with the goal of helping refugee and immigrant women become self-sufficient by encouraging entrepreneurial and small business opportunities.
