One of the largest teams registered to date
for the 2013 Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run/Walk & Fitness Program (KPCRW),
Team DeKalb Medical boasts 325 team members and counting. This is their first
time in a few years participating as a stand-alone team having previously
joined forces with Team Decatur.
“With such a large team formed across our three campuses, we have a diverse group represented by walkers, walkers who are aspiring runners, and runners,” says Nick West, marketing communications coordinator and team captain of DeKalb Medical. “Our three campuses have mapped out indoor and outdoor walk and run routes accessible at all hours to accommodate varying work schedules. And, employees are encouraged to use a FitBit to track their steps and fuel friendly competition as we prepare for the KPCRW.”
I REACH! 4 Health is DeKalb Medical’s system-wide health and wellness program engaging employees through awareness, social support, positive mindset and access to health resources. I REACH 4 Health represents the health system’s values and is an acronym for Integrity, Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion and Helping Hands.
Members of Team DeKalb Medical have taken the I REACH! 4 Health program to heart. John Katsianis, the hospital’s CFO, has walked at least three miles every morning for more than 1,700 consecutive days; registered nurse and captain of the mother/baby clinical site, Jamie Ray, has lost 98 pounds over the past 10 years and has never felt better; and Kim Bentley, Executive Director of Care Services at DeKalb Medical of Hillandale, will be one of the first to cross the finish line at the KPCRW in September as she defends her women’s runner championship title.
“We are already so proud of our team members – even before crossing the finish line,” continues West. “We are encouraged by the employee response to I REACH! 4 Health and the KPCRW and recognize that this is a strong foundation on which we will build upon together for the benefit of all.”
