Atlanta High School Students Gather for the Gifted Foundation's New Student Orientation

On Saturday, June 29, several dozen Atlanta students gathered at Goodrich C. White Hall on the campus of Emory University for a new student orientation held by the Gifted Education Foundation. Gifted welcomed into its program 42 new students, who are rising seniors at high schools in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Students attending the orientation learned what they could expect as participants. Gifted founder Anthony Flynn along with Student Engagement and Life Development Coordinator Tolton Pace provided an overview of the program calendar for the coming school year and explained the demands of being a Gifted student.

"We have high expectations for our students. We frequently remind them that the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is the extra," says Flynn.

"We will continue to raise the bar for them as we are mindful they represent our country's future leadership. Last year's class generated over $2.3 million in scholarships and subsidized funding. We intend for this class to far exceed that number."

Thirty parents of the new participating students also attended the orientation. Staff members used this as an opportunity to address some of their concerns, including questions about session attendance. Parents showed their commitment to their children and to the program by initiating a support network amongst themselves. Their goal is to work together to ensure that each student has proper transportation to and from Emory University for Gifted sessions.
