ATLANTA – Provost Academy Georgia (PAGA) is traveling across the Atlanta area to educate the public about its unique, tuition-free programs that provide high school students with a customized learning experience. The first community information meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 9, in Riverdale and the final meeting is Wednesday, September 18, in Downtown Atlanta. (Locations, dates, and times are listed at the bottom of the page.) Prospective students and parents interested in learning about PAGA are encouraged to attend to ask questions, meet staff and register on site.
PAGA is a statewide, single-school district that serves students in grades 9 through 12. Like students in traditional high schools, Provost students work toward their high school diploma, but because classes are online, they have the flexibility to log on and learn at their own pace from the
comfort and safety of their homes.
"We have removed the walls, the clocks, and the barriers for access to quality public education," explained Dr. Monica Henson, Superintendent and Chief Executive Officer of PAGA. "Our program is working and our kids are excelling academically. More than 90% of our juniors statewide are at or above grade level in literacy as measured by the state examinations. This is the future of education."
In addition to online courses, PAGA also provides face-to-face instruction and guidance through Magic Johnson Bridgescape® learning centers. The Magic Johnson Bridgescape® center is designed to serve students who have dropped out of school, who are at risk of dropping out, or who are behind in school credits.
“Our goal is to ensure that no student falls through the cracks,” said Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who last year formed a strategic alliance with EdisonLearning – which partners with PAGA to operate the Magic Johnson Bridgescape® centers. “All students should have the opportunity to receive their high school diplomas and be fully prepared for college or the workplace.”
The Magic Johnson Bridgescape® centers in Georgia are located in Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah. A fourth center is scheduled to open officially in Augusta in late September.
“This is a unique opportunity for students to earn a Georgia high school diploma, not a GED,” said Delmon Moore, principal of The Magic Johnson Bridgescape® center in Atlanta. "Our program is helping students who never thought they could attend college begin to view college as a real possibility."
