Explorers Plant their Future

Mark your social calendars for November 3!

What are you doing on Saturday evening, November 3?

If you don't ALREADY have plans, I'd like to invite you to check out the fourth annual A Night at the Museum: Explorers Plant their Future silent and live auction at Little Tree Properties (Avondale Estates). One of the most eagerly anticipated "parents-night-out/date-night" events around, this year's auction promises to be a must-attend.

Auction chairperson Jennifer Joyner shares, "This year's event is special since it's our first year in a 'permanent' home -- thus the theme selection: Explorers Plant their Future. We felt this had special meaning, as our children now have a school building (the newly renovated Forrest Hills Elementary School) they can call 'home' through their elementary and middle school years. This is where many memories will be made for The Museum School students and families."

Additionally, the tony event promises many other "firsts"...

Local artist Samantha Abernathy helps set the tone for the event with the launch of the auction's premier digital "Save the Date" video. "The art she creates in the video is helping us kick-start our promotional efforts. In the coming weeks, the tree she sketches here will digitally transform and 'grow.' On the night of auction, event attendees will be able to leave their mark on the actual canvas, contributing to the final, completed artwork -- which will then be presented to the school as a memento of the evening," adds Joyner.

(In an interesting twist, TMS just learned that the nearly 100-year old tree -- the backdrop for the video -- needs to be cut down because it is unhealthy and poses a risk to the school. Sigh.)

Also new for this year is the introduction of "Grand Art," which will be sponsored by the Avondale Arts Alliance. "In the past, art has been created by TMS children and has proven to be the live auction's best-selling items. However, we wanted to 'take it up a notch.'" says Joyner. "We've invited five local, emerging artistis to come to the school and help students create grade-level 'Grand Art' pieces. The artists will immerse themselves in the creation of the piece alongside the children. The results will be unveiled at the Auction."

Another first (and reason NOT to miss this event) is the announcement that LEONs Full Service will be sponsoring the VIP hour. "We are so excited! We can't wait to sample the selection of tasty hors d'oeuvres and the signature cocktail that LEONs will create exclusively for our VIP event," she adds. VIP guests (which are limited to 100 tickets sold and go quickly) are able to arrive an hour early (6 p.m.) to socialize, preview the item tables, and soak in the atmosphere.

Other sponsors who have already jumped onboard include:

Auction Presenting Sponsor 102GROUP -- an education consulting organization that focuses on school quality review, leadership coaching/training (founded by Avondale Estates resident Jeff Rutel)

No. 246 -- Decatur hot-spot which will also be providing some delicious fare for event attendees

My personal reasons for planning to attend this event?

  1. I can pick up some very cool, distinct, and one-of-a kind items for friends, family, kids, and myself.
  2. I know that the money I spend here is going to a worthy community cause -- The Museum School of Avondale Estates.
  3. I get to meet lots of interesting people from the Decatur and Avondale Estates communities.
  4. I need a date night with my hubby! 'Nuf said.
