KNOW WHAT’S IN YOUR FOOD AT 7 HENS

This post was born thanks to the questions you guys recently asked. Due to latest media exposes regarding big chains' toxic breads and harmful ingredients, many of you started raising questions: what exactly is in my food? What am I doing to my body by choosing cheap places? And is there a way to enjoy a quick-serve meal without paying a financial and health price?
I believe that the answer to the last question is yes. I will not talk about any other food establishments for obvious reasons. They rank all across the board from nutritionally horrible to incredibly healthy. I will, however, share some facts about the food at my place, 7 Hens.
The bread: As demonstrated in the links above, bread seems to be an issue for the big chains. At 7 hens we use fresh bread from a local bakery in Tucker. Our bread is 100% natural and has no chemicals or preservatives. It only has common household ingredients such as wheat, egg, and water.
The chicken: You should always inquire about the source of your protein. Heck, soon enough you may be eating a chicken nugget made in China because the USDA’s recent decision.  And you don’t need to be an Einstein to realize that it’s wrong. 7 Hens chicken comes from Mar-Jac in Gainesville GA. The fact that it’s local reduces the ecological footprint and allows us to serve it fresher. Mar-Jac Poultry has won awards for their humane practices. The chicken is all-natural and raised cage-free. And just one piece of shameless pride: at 7 Hens you see your chicken breast as a whole before we cut it, so you know you are not getting bits and pieces of scraps (sinew, ligament etc.) but a super trim, super clean, lean, 100% white meat.
The Sauces: We hand-make from scratch almost all our sauces. We chop herbs, caramelize onions, squeeze lemons and mix seasonings at the restaurant every day. I do have to say that the ketchup we serve has HFCS (we buy prepared ketchup).
The Produce: Most of the produce we use comes from Dekalb Farmer’s market.
The Oil: We use trans-free canola oil (the clear, healthier kind).
The Mindset: 7 Hens supports healthy eating habits. Whether you choose a signature fried schnitzel with mayo-based sauce or you go with grilled chicken salad depends on your personal preferences. But either way, you are eating what I consider “honest” food, real food… not extracts of flavor, not lab-engineered, not shipped from a central kitchen.
The conclusion:  You can make your own conclusion… I just shared some points with you out of respect to your senses, your taste buds, your families, your bodies, your money, and your intellect.
I hope this was informative
Wishing you the Best of the flavor… from around the world…
