About 800 people crowded into Decatur First Baptist Church on Monday night to hear writer Anne Lamott talk about her book, "Help, Thanks, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers."

The venue was appropriate, since the book is about spirituality.

Lamott said she and her two brothers were raised by atheist parents but all three siblings ended up as Christians. She credited prayer with helping her become sober after years of heavy drinking and drug use.

She appeared at the church last March to promote another book, ”Some Assembly Required: A Journal of My Son’s First Son.”

My favorite line from Anne Lamott: "Laughter is carbonated happiness."

That was my favorite as well, posted it on my FB page yesterday. She was delightful, honest, and inspiring.
