Save A Shelter Pet, Save Money This Month

Pet adoption options at LifeLine include no-fee adoptions for veterans all year and, through Nov.18, cat lovers can adopt a new feline friend for only $9.

Up to 80,000 puppies, adult dogs, cats and kittens are euthanized in shelters in the metro area each year, making Atlanta one of the biggest "kill cities" in the nation.

Why? The reason is singular, stark and heartbreaking. These thousands of pets are killed simply because they don't have homes.

Not only can you save two lives when you adopt a pet from a shelter (the life of the dog or cat you adopt and the life of a homeless animal who gets the space that your new pet once occupied) but at LifeLine Animal Project this month, there are extremely affordable options for adoption.

Veterans and current enlisted military can always adopt for free at LifeLine as part of their Pets Helping Vets program and, up until November 18, cat lovers can adopt a cat for $9 as part of LifeLine's "9 Lives For $9" promotion.

Adoption fees at LifeLine are regularly $80 for cats and $120 for dogs.

The savings right now go further than just a reasonable adoption fee of less than $10 for cats. All pets at LifeLine are already up to date on their vaccinations and micro chipped, which can immediately save a new pet parent up to $100.

The rescued dogs and cats are also spayed or neutered, increasing the savings to the new owner considerably. Many of the dogs who have been at the shelter for any amount of time have also received some obedience training.

LifeLine will be holding an open house event in their no-kill, cage-free Kitty Motel Nov. 16-18 where the public can come and meet rescued cats of all kinds, learn about LifeLine's rescue programs and also enjoy refreshments and the company of other feline aficionados. The open house hours are from 2-7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 12-5 p.m. Sunday.

LifeLine Animal Project is located at 129 Lake St. in Avondale Estates.
