The shows raised about $6,000 for the Decatur Cooperative Ministry, a group that helps homeless and poor people.
This year PIR wants to raise $10,000 with shows July 27-29.
This is shaping up to be a Decatur-centric event. Local band The Bitteroots will play the first night. Mike Killeen of Decatur, the founder of PIR, and his band The Dregs wrap up the weekend on Sunday night, July 29.
The music's not just for adults. Saturday, July 28, shows at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. will feature Eric Litwin, the musical author of the Pete the Cat picture books.
Here's some information PIR sent out about the shows.
Poverty is Real, based in Decatur, Georgia, plans and promotes benefit concerts in communities throughout the U.S. and donates the funds raised to local organizations fighting poverty. There are four PIR events planned in 2012: Decatur, Georgia; Asheville, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; and Athens, Georgia.

Local Business Sponsors include Paste Magazine, Brick Store Pub, Leon’s Full Service, Eddie’s Attic, Pure, Chick Fil-A, Pyrofly, Little Shop of Stories, the City of Decatur, the Decatur Business Association, and Lenz.
