2 Mexican Restaurants Opening Mid-May

Hola!, located in the old Decatur Diner space, opens May 13. Mar, a "coastal Mexican" restaurant in the old Feast space, opens in mid-May.

Decatur's two new Mexican restaurants will open soon -- Hola! on May 13 and Mar sometime in mid-May.

Hola!, occupying the Decatur Diner spot at East Ponce and Church Street, will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week co-owner Mike Brosius said.

The menu will be based on Mexican food, but non-Mexican dishes will be available, too.

"It will be Mexican with a slant," he said.

No business has operated out of the spot at Church Street and East Ponce in more than a year. The Decatur Diner operated there a few years after the Atlanta Bread Company closed.

Mar, a "coastal Mexican" eatery in the old Feast space on East Howard across from the Decatur Depot, is shooting for a soft opening around May 14 or 15 and a public opening the next day, reports Atlanta magazine.

The Atlanta magazine article says,

Replacing Feast, Mar was created by Humberto Bermudez, a chef who owns one restaurant in Barcelona and two in Mexico. However, although Bermudez designed the initial menu for Mar, he will not be in the kitchen.

Joey Zelinka, most recently of the Sound Table, will be the executive chef and has been working furiously since he signed on late last week to finalize the menu.

“Mar is coastal Mexican first and Latin second,” says Zelinka, who hails from Miami.
