Get Out: Taste Wine, Hit the Cosmic Carnival, Celebrate Earth Day and More

Plan your weekend in Decatur and Avondale Estates

 

1. ART IN THE AFTERNOON 

Where/When: Venues include: Paste, Roost, Metro Dance Studio & The Little Wine Shop, Saturday, April 16, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why go: Enjoy “Art in the Afternoon” as you walk from venue to venue, eat light appetizers, and enjoy refreshments. What's more, the music will keep you going. Are you worried about where these places are and how to get to all of them? Since all the venues are located within blocks of each other, you’ll have no worries!

2. CELEBRATE DECATUR’S EARTH DAY

Where/When: Oakhurst Community Garden Project, 435 Oakview Rd., Decatur, Saturday, April 17, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why go: It’s Earth Month, the least you can do is celebrate Earth Day in your own community, right? Get out and do the right thing for the earth!

3. COSMIC CARNIVAL AT TRILOGY BOOKSTORE

Where/When: Trilogy, 126 N. Avondale Rd., Avondale Estates, Friday, April 15, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why go: It's like cosmic, ya know? The Cosmic Carnival benefits Atlanta East Side Pride. There's face painting, “Galactic Gay Yoga”, chair massages and Tarot, intuitive and astrology readings, and other carnival games. If you've left the family at home, there's a 9 p.m. showing of a LGBT film.

Pricing: $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

4. SEE A MUSICAL TAKE ON THREE CLASSIC CHILDREN’S BOOKS

Where/When: Eddie’s Attic, 515 N. McDonough St., Decatur, two shows, Saturday, April 16, 10:30 a.m. (doors open at 10 a.m.) and 1 p.m. (doors open at 12:30 p.m.)

Why go: See Decatur resident Caroline Herring perform musical collaborations on three children’s books: “The Tale of Peter Rabbit”, “The Little House” and “Chicken Soup With Rice”. Bring the kids and enjoy the show – Eddie’s Attic will even have a Kid’s Menu available! This will also be the CD release for Herring.

Pricing: $10 general admission/$50 tables w/four reserved seats 

5. TASTE WINE WITH SHERLOCK’S WINE MERCHANT

Where/When: Cooks Warehouse/Sherlock’s, 116 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, Tuesday, April 19, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why go: What with the tasting fee being applied to purchases of a case or more and featuring over 40 wines from around the world and hor d/oeuvres from Parker’s on Ponce, what’s not to love?

Pricing: $20 a person/reservations required: make them in the store or call 404-377-4005.
