DeKalb Bomb Squad to Train at Vacant Plant in Avondale

You may hear 12 loud explosions during the next few weeks for this training exercise

Starting Tuesday, residents and businesses near the Fenner Dunlop plant may hear a series of loud explosions.

DeKalb County Police Bomb Squad will be conducting explosives training starting Feb. 8 at the vacant facility, located at 21 Laredo Drive. The training exercises are expected to last for the next few weeks.

The squad expects there could be 12 loud explosions throughout the training exercises.

Fenner Dunlop vacated the plant several years ago, and recently Avondale Estates annexed the area into the city as part of a land use vision for a mixed-use property.

Fenner Dunlop has plans to tear down the buildings though perhaps the explosions may help defray those costs.
