Decatur Wants Help Tracking Coyotes

Online form posted on city website.

The City of Decatur is asking any resident who sees a coyote to fill out an online form with specifics about where and when the coyote was spotted.

The city created the form following a Monday meeting at which a resident urged the city to become more aggressive in dealing with coyotes.

The city also posted existing information about coyotes – including the link to the form – on the city website homepage.

She said Decatur should change its attitude of coexistence with the coyotes because the animals are becoming too comfortable with humans.

The commission sympathized with her but didn’t take any action. Most experts say killing or trapping coyote doesn’t help in the long run because new coyotes move in to take their place.

Do you think the city is doing enough?
