Decatur Commission OKs Sunday Sales
Starting this Sunday, eight stores can sell package alcohol from 12:30 to 11:30 p.m.
To nobody's surprise, the Decatur City Commission on Monday night authorized the Sunday sale of alcohol in retail establishments.
More than 90 percent of voters casting ballots in Decatur during the Nov. 8 election said they favored Sunday sales. The commission vote was 4-0, with Jim Baskett absent.
The change is effective this Sunday. From 12:30 to 11:30 p.m., these eight establishments can sell alcohol:

- Devki (Citgo) Food Mart- 600 W. Howard Ave.
- Econo Flash - 527 E College Ave.

- - 650-A East Lake Drive
The sale of alcohol in restaurants and bars on Sundays has been legal for years.
The commission simultaneously approved other changes to the city alcohol ordinance. A corking fee was instituted. Customers can bring their own bottle of wine into restaurants with pouring licenses.

Another change calls for the city to more closely regulate outdoor restaurant tables located on city-owned right-of-way, and that includes banning smoking at those tables.
This would affect restaurants along Sycamore Street and East Court Square. The rule would go into effect next October for existing restaurants and Jan. 1 for new restaurants.
