Decatur Needs A Slogan

Come up with a local version of "I Love New York" and you might win two T-shirts.

The City of Decatur is running a contest and asking residents to come up with a marketing slogan that captures the city's love of independent businesses.

It's hard to come up with a good slogan. For every "I Love New York" there's an "Every Day Is An Opening Day" -- the Atlanta slogan that thankfully faded away.

Here are a few of the good and bad slogans from the metro area over the years:

  • Atlanta: "The City Too Busy to Hate," “Every Day Is An Opening Day” and “City Lights, Southern Nights.”
  • Gwinnett County: “Success Lives Here” and “Gwinnett is Great.”
  • Duluth: “Capture the Spirit of Good Living."
  • Norcross: “A Place to Imagine.”
  • Snellville: "Everybody's Somebody in Snellville."

Bear in mind that some of these cities spent big money for their slogans. That's why it's good to know the winner of the Decatur contest will take home two free T-shirts with his or her slogan, as well as a restaurant gift card.

The contest runs until March 16. Ideas should be sent to Catherine.Lee@decaturga.com.
