Police nabbed two suspects who allegedly broke into a home on Chatsworth Drive in Avondale Estates on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

A witness, Scot VanPelt noticed the would-be burglars enter the Chatworth Drive residence and immediately called Avondale Estates police. He said it was the same house that had been burglarized Friday, Jan. 21.

"The [burglars] stood there watched me as I took some groceries into the house," VanPelt said. "Then I saw them go into the neighbors house. I called 911. I then approached them. They said they were looking for somebody, then they took off."

VanPelt said he stayed in contact with 911 until the police showed up.

Cpl. Tom Gillis and Cpl. R. Henise with Avondale Police were in the area and approached the suspects-- 17-year-old Daris Burnett, a senior at Avondale High School, and 17-year-old Lashana Walker, a junior -- who were on foot. Sgt. J. Bowen assisted in the arrests.

Cpl. Gillis said it's unclear if the suspects have any connection to the burglary at the same residence a week ago.

"The suspects had no weapons, no knives, not even nail clippers," Gillis said. "They did not even have cell phones."
