Judy comes to the City of Avondale Estates from Southface, a nonprofit organization that focuses on promoting sustainable, resource-efficient communities, homes and workplaces. As Director of Communications for Southface since 2009, Judy was responsible for the national launch of its award-winning Eco Office and also for its green jobs training center.

In addition, she played a central role in positioning the organization for regional and national recognition, including awards it received from the Urban Land Institute, the Atlanta Business Chronicle and the Governor's office. She also helped to advance key programs such as the Sustainable Cities Institute and the annual Greenprints green building conference.

A city enthusiast and active community member, Judy currently serves on the boards of directors for the Wylde Center (formerly the Oakhurst Community Garden) and the Lifecycle Building Center in Atlanta. She has lived in Toronto, Los Angeles, Bangkok and Auckland, as well as Half Moon Bay in California, Norcross and Decatur in Georgia.

The city commission and downtown development authority publicly talked about creating the communcations manager's job back in August. The job was posted in October.

City leaders feel many roadblocks to redeveloping the city have been lifted, such as settlement of a bankruptcy that tied up many tracts of property and the sle of the large Tudor-style building in the middle of downtown.
