Decatur Arts Fest: Try These Five Events

The festival will take over downtown Saturday and Sunday.

You'll find plenty to do at the Decatur Arts Festival on Saturday, but here are five events that could surprise you.

1. A Wacky Parade. The Kids Arts Festival alway starts with a whimsical parade of decorated bikes, strollers and other movable objects. Lineup begins at 9:40 a.m. at Commerce Drive and Church Street. The festival is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Decatur, 308 Clairemont Ave.

2. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. OnStage Atlanta Theatre Company celebrates its 40th season by performing rollicking selections from this famous Broadway show. Noon to 12:45 p.m. in the Theater and Literary Arts tent on the Old Courthouse lawn.

3. The Lovely Drifters. Amy Andrews and Alex Sia are classically trained musicians with an activist streak and an interesting blog, 366 Days. They perform 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Acoustic Palette Tent at 1 W. Court Square.

4. The young comedians. Decatur yoUth Comedy Krewe (D.U.C.K.) is an improv group consisting of Decatur’s funniest teenagers. 2 to 2:45 p.m. in the Comedy Tent on the Marta Plaza.

5. Fine Arts Exhibition. The artwork is outstanding, with submissions from regional and national artists -- and the building is air conditioned. Noon to 6 p.m. at the Dalton Gallery at Agnes Scott College, in the Dana Fine Arts Building.
