Residents of Third Avenue in Decatur are worried about speeding traffic on their street, where a lot of little kids live.

These people live between East Lake and Lyden. They will approach the Decatur City Commission Monday night and ask for a reduction in the speed limit from 30 to 20 mph, an increase in the height of a current speed hump and the installation of two new speed humps.

The residents have submitted a petititon with 38 signatures.

The commission is also scheduled to vote on whether to spend more money on the renovation of the city recreation center.

Assistant City Manager Hugh Saxon says the budget for asebestos removal needs to grow from $19,243 to $46,043.

He said asbestos was discovered under the gym floor last fall when workers were salvaging two sections of the floor where city logos had been painted.

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in the city hall meeting room, preceded by a 6 p.m. executive session to discuss legal issues and a 6:30 p.m. dinner session.
