Yard Sale to benefit Kirsten Mead Walker

  • October 2, 2012

Senoia resident and one-time member of the Decatur community, Kirsten Walker had been training for months to participate in the May 20 Iron Girl Triathlon at Lake Lanier.

Kirsten completed the swimming portion of the event, and then was severely injured in a bicycle accident.  She suffered a broken shoulder, a few broken ribs and most concerning, a severe brain injury.  She underwent brain surgery at Gwinnett Medical on May 20th, and then another surgery at Grady Medical to repair an artery which temporarily impaired vision in one eye, then she spent several weeks undergoing treatment & therapy at the Shepherd Center.  Today she is at home recuperating and continuing to heal.

After months of recovery and therapy, Kirsten has made major improvements, but still has many milestones to reach.

In the past, Kirsten would be the 1st on hand to help and give support, but it will take a crew of dozens to fill her shoes as we work to support Kirsten and those caring for her needs.

All proceeds and donations raised in the Oct 13th yard sale will go to Kirsten Walker and her family to support their ongoing efforts to help Kirsten regain her memory and get back to her life as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.

Kirsten is married to Rodney Walker, and they have a daughter Lily Grace, age 4. She is a graduate of Jonesboro High in 1986, and the University of Georgia in 1991. She was employed by Old Castle, Inc. at the time of her accident.

This event, hosted by life-long friends of Kirsten, will offer hot dogs, popcorn and bake items for sale, along with books, furniture, clothes and small kitchen appliances.  We also welcome any monetary donations people are inspired to give.

The yard sale will take place all day on Saturday, October 13th at 236 Willow Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30030.

We've received some great donations from furniture to Taste of Home decorative items, kids toys, books and brand new designer handbags. This is going to be fun!
