March is Brain Injury Awareness Month - Peachtree Pilot Club of Atlanta, Inc., Hosts Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month.  A brain injury can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere.  Brain injuries do not discriminate.  Did you know 1.7 million people will sustain a brain injury each year?  An injury that happens in an instant can bring a lifetime of physical, cognitive and behavior challenges and early, equal and adequate access to care will greatly increase overall quality of life.

The Peachtree Pilot Club of Atlanta, Inc., joins a national network of brain injury organizations affiliated with the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA), including self-advocates, families and volunteers across the nation to mark Brain Injury Awareness Month in March.

In that effort, The Peachtree Pilot Club of Atlanta, Inc., will host an educational, fund-raising Pancake Breakfast at the First Christian Church, 601 W. Ponce de Leon Avenue, Decatur, on Saturday morning, March 23rd, beginning at 7:00am, focusing on protecting the brain.  Materials will be provided by the US Dept of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control - Injury Prevention, outlining how to recognize concussion symptoms, written for parents, teachers and school nurse resources.  Children will be treated to (2) award-winning BrainMinder's Buddies presentations, teaching the importance of wearing safety gear, after which they will be given a bike helmet, age appropriate coloring books featuring BrainMinder Buddy characters and a personalized participation certificate.

Tickets for the fund-raising event are available in advance ($8.00 adult/ $5.00 children 10 and under) or at the door ($10.00 adult/ $8.00 children 10 and under).  Take out will be available.  Proceeds from the event will be used to provide a scholarship for one attendee and caregiver to attend Camp Hardgrove, (Sept. 12-15, 2013) and the Brain Injury Peer Visitor Association.  Camp Hardgrove, in partnership with Camp Twin Lakes, focuses on providing unique and social opportunities to adult brain injury survivors.

The Peachtree Pilot Club of Atlanta, Inc., chartered in 1953, is a local club of Pilot International, a 501(c)(3) civic and service organization headquartered in Macon, Ga, focusing on the prevention and awareness of brain injuries and disabilities. The Club holds a business/dinner meeting on the 4th Tuesday or each month at the GA Power Headquarters Bldg. at 5:30pm.
