New Leadership Program Helps Teen Girls SOAR to New Heights

Atlanta, GA,-April 5, 2012-After undertaking a community needs assessment in 2011, the board of directors of Leading Ladies of Legacy Inc. has established public education achievement as a key program priority. After careful consideration Soar Young Women’s Leadership Academy was created.

“Education is a major need facing Leading Ladies of Legacy, and it’s a big priority of our organization and donors,” said Regina E. Coley, Executive Director of the organization.  “We have a very unique and important role to play and we are very excited about launching the SOAR Young Women’s Leadership Academy. “

Soar Young Women’s Leadership Academy is an academic enrichment and leadership program serving high school females who seek to gain leadership skills. SYWLA serves young adults ages 14-18 in Cobb, Fulton, and Dekalb Counties. A completed application and parental consent waiver is required for program participation. SYWLA students will take part in a variety of activities, workshops, and events that emphasize growth in the following areas: Leadership, Internships and Scholarships, College Preparation, Goal Setting and Attainment, and Professional Development & Entrepreneurship.

“I am very proud of this program and how it is helping to better meet the needs of our young female leaders and scholars. Our program will inspire girls to learn and lead. We will begin to see noticeable benefits like fewer disciplinary problems and higher attendance rates and an increase in grades. With the help of community members and local businesses, our program will be an alternative to unhealthy afterschool/weekend activities.”

SOAR Young Women’s Leadership Academy sessions are held every 2nd Saturday, 10 am-12:00 pm, excluding April (which meets on the 7th) at the Smyrna Recreation Center, Smyrna, GA.
