Milliron Lauded for Training, Leadership Institute Participation

Avondale Estates Mayor Pro Tem David A. Milliron received the prestigious Certificate of Achievement from the Georgia Municipal Training Institute at the Georgia Municipal Association’s (GMA) Annual Mayors’ Day Conference in Atlanta on January 23 and was also recognized for participating in the annual Robert E. Knox Leadership Institute for Elected Officials.

The Georgia Municipal Training Institute, a cooperative effort of GMA and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, provides a nationally recognized series of training opportunities for elected city officials.  To receive a Certificate of Achievement, a city official must complete a minimum of 72 units of credit.  The training program consists of a series of 24 six-unit courses.

The three-day Leadership Institute, also co-sponsored by GMA and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, featured several nationally recognized training development consultants and speakers.  Participants also engaged in role-playing exercises designed to cultivate and enhance leadership skills.

“We commend Mayor Pro Tem Milliron for attending this program, for his training accomplishment and for the dedication he’s shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official,” said GMA Executive Director Jim Higdon.  “The Leadership Institute is an outstanding program and widely acknowledged as one of the best of its type in the country.  We highly recommend it to any city official who wants to be a more effective community leader.”

Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its 500 member cities.
