Druid Hills Middle Student Chosen for Allstate Chorus
Grace Tolentino, 7th grader at Druid Hills Middle School, has auditioned and has been selected to be in the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) Allstate Chorus!
Grace took a written music theory test, an aural skills test, sang major, minor, and chromatic scales, a solo from an approved list of solos, as well as sight reading. In January, Grace passed her second audition with a perfect score of 100%!
Grace's story is unique. Grace has bilateral sensorineural hearing loss from birth and wears hearing aids. Grace's parents noticed that she could hum songs with perfect pitch before she was even old enough to speak a sentence. She takes piano lessons but also plays by ear, and she has taught her herself to play the guitar and ukulele. Grace's chorus teacher, Susan Jordan, said "Grace has learned how to compensate for her hearing loss, especially when learning how to pronounce foreign languages, pass an aural skills test, and sight read music. It has been a real challenge for her, but Grace is such a determined, smart and hard worker, she can truly do anything! I'm truly learning so much just being around her!"
