Construction Resources Supplies New Countertops for Ga Tech Arena

As part of the total renovation of the Georgia Tech University basketball arena, Construction Resources, Inc. is providing new, environmentally friendly countertops. The Eco by Consentino line will be installed all throughout the concessions area. This high tech recycled Silestone countertop is a perfect fit for the future-minded technical college’s environmentally-friendly renovation.

“We’re glad to provide the countertops for the Georgia Tech arena, and we’re proud that they are using one of our many environmentally friendly options,” said Mitch Hires, president of Construction Resources. “The renovation is a huge undertaking that will be appreciated by many Georgians, and we are proud to have a hand in the move to a green-built arena.”

The complete renovation of the former Alexander Memorial Coliseum is changing everything but the steel bones of the arena. The renovation is being built to LEED Gold Certification standards with a focus on sustainable materials and practices. This is the third renovation of the site, which was recently revitalized for the Olympics. There are 30,000 square feet of additional space being added. The project was made possible by a large donation by university alum Hank McCamish and the finished, green-built stadium will be known as the Hank McCamish Pavilion.

Part of these sustainable practices includes choosing Eco countertops, which are made of 75 percent recycled content and are bound by a natural resin which is produced in part from corn oil. The surface uses a mixture of content which has reached the end of its life cycle and would otherwise sit in landfills, from porcelain toilets to glass from windshields. The material has GreenGard, NSF and Cradle to Cradle certifications in addition to being a LEED approved surface.
