In lieu of its normal morning worship services, Clairmont Presbyterian Church will be going out and serving others in the Decatur/Atlanta area on Sunday, February 10th, 2013. The 450-member congregation will gather for a short commissioning service at 9am in the Clairmont sanctuary. At 9:20am, the service will conclude and the congregation will depart in small groups of 6-12 to serve all over the Decatur/Atlanta area. They are calling the event “Acts of Worship.” Join in!
These groups will go to places including The Covenant House in downtown Atlanta, Journey in Midtown, Hagar’s House in Decatur, The Clarkston Community Center, Lakeside High School, and the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve. Some groups will serve and share a meal with homeless and at-risk populations, others will help with restoration and beautification projects. Still others will remain on Clairmont’s campus as they put together hygiene kits for the homeless, offer prayers for the city, and write letters of encouragement to missionaries around the world. At 6pm on that Sunday, the congregation will gather back in the sanctuary for a worship and celebration. There, they will hear from guest preacher Rev. Charlie Durham of First Presbyterian Church Tuscaloosa.
This is an exciting, new endeavor for Clairmont as it seeks to find creative, tangible, and lasting ways to love and serve the surrounding community. If you would like to know more about Acts of Worship or if you would like to sign up to join in on a project, check out clairmontpres.org/actsofworship. Photos from the event will be posted on Clairmont’s website on Monday, February 11th.
